Santulan-the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment initiative of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan under the guidance of Divya Guru Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji observed the sacred festive transition of Uttarayan with a series of vibrant events pan India organised under its annual, month-long campaign Kanya Bachao. Observed every year from 13 January on Lohri until Basant Panchami, the campaign seeks to awaken society towards valuing the female child and nurturing a culture of dignity, protection, and equal opportunity for girls.

Uttarayan signifies the sun’s northward journey, a period considered highly auspicious in Indian tradition. Across India, this seasonal shift is celebrated with great devotion and cultural vibrance in the form of Lohri, Magh Bihu, Khichdi/Sankranti, Pongal, Haldi Kumkum etc. Traditionally, some of these festivals, especially Lohri, have been linked with rejoicing over the birth of a male child.

Recognising the declining child sex ratio and the persistence of son preference syndrome in several gender critical districts of the country in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh etc., DJJS Santulan has been actively spearheading its annual Kanya Bachao campaign to promote the Save the Girl Child message and foster social awareness towards the dignity, safety, and equal worth of daughters, in alignment with the spirit of International Day of the Girl Child.

Under the guidance of Divya Guru Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, the initiative has been reshaping societal mindsets through the inspiring concept of Dhiyaan Di Lohri, encouraging families to equally celebrate the birth of daughters. Parents of newly born daughters are felicitated, while sustained awareness initiatives continue to raise a compassionate call against female foeticide, female infanticide, and sex-selective practices.

This year, in 40 cities across 11 states of India such as Amravati, Chakan, Nagpur & Latur in Maharashtra ; Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand ; Pathankot, Patiala, Moga, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sri Muktar Sahib, Bhatinda, Abohar, Dhilwan, DMK, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur & Amritsar in Punjab ; Saharanpur, Aligarh, Meerut & Ghaziabad in UP ; Sira, Panipat, Jagadhari & Gurugram in Haryana ; Ahmedabad in Gujrat ; Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Jaipur & Jodhpur in Rajasthan ; Chandigarh in UT ; Dwarka & Vikaspuri in Delhi ; Gwalior in MP ; Dibrugarh in Assam, multifarious events featuring engaging activities, folk dance presentations, thought provoking skits, musical renditions, insightful lectures, discourses; were organised to convey the message of the theme of the campaign effectively and evocatively.

Driven by a spirit of collective resolve and meaningful celebration, DJJS Santulan continues to transform traditions into a powerful medium for social reform, ensuring that every daughter is welcomed with joy and is nurtured with respect and equal rights.

Intending to reinstate the ‘status of women’ as in the Vedic times, DJJS Santulan has been incessantly working towards alleviating women from the vicious cycle of subordination and subjugation through holistic empowerment on the grounds of spiritual wakening and eventually etching them as 21st Century Vedic Women.

DJJS, through its multi-dimensional social reform programs, continues to work across domains such as education, drug abuse eradication, environment conservation, community health, disaster relief, and prisoner reformation, carrying forward its mission of establishing universal brotherhood and peace.
