With the objective of transforming the landscape of gender equality Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS), through its Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Initiative Santulan, is implementing the nationwide campaign Putraḥ Putreṇ Duhitaa Samaa. Based on various surveys conducted by DJJS Santulan with the help of DJJS Branches across the country, several clusters of regions in various states such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra etc. were identified which indicate prevalence of son-preference syndrome, lower child sex ratio(eg. 902 girls per 1000 boys in Uttar Pradesh and 928 girls per 1000 boys in Rajasthan), lower access to education for women, persisting gender prejudices against girls and women for the effective and strategic implementation of the campaign which has been active since October 2025. DJJS Branches in the selected and identified clusters are appointed as implementation centers for the said campaign.
As observed during the conducted surveys by DJJS Santulan, the image of development may appear promising from the outside, yet within many households, the lives of women continue to be shaped by silence, compromises, and inequality. Many rural women belong to a generation whose education was sacrificed for the future of their brothers, whose aspirations were overshadowed by early marriage and responsibilities, and whose voices were seldom given a place in decision-making. Statistics also indicate a significant gap still exists in access to education and access to opportunities (female literacy 74.6% vs male literacy 87.2% according to recent Periodic Labour Force Survey Data). Literacy, economic independence, and safety continue to remain areas of struggle for many women. Domestic violence, emotional neglect, and social pressures are often normalized in the name of tradition or duty.
Divya Guru Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, the Founder and Head of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, states, “The mind is the author of our lives. Our thoughts and expressions are the messengers of our actions. The root cause of deeply entrenched gender inequality lies in the unhealthy conditioning of the human mind.”
Designed under the leadership of Sadhvi Deepika Bharti Ji, Global Head of DJJS Santulan and a renowned exponent of Shri Ram Katha in both Hindi and English, the said campaign is founded on the belief that the struggle for gender equality and women empowerment cannot be confined to the present generation alone. If youth is nurtured from an early age the values of equality, respect, and shared responsibility, can become the foundation of a future society free from all sorts of gender based discrimination and gender based violence. Under this campaign, special workshops are being conducted in schools and colleges across rural areas, engaging students and teachers as beneficiaries. These programmes are facilitated by the Sadhvi representatives of DJJS.
With a commitment to dismantling the barriers of gender based discrimination and violence arising from deeply rooted prejudices, DJJS Santulan is working actively at the grassroots level through this campaign.
It has been observed through various conducted programs in various regions that boys and girls, who represent the Gen Alpha generation, are viewing these sessions not merely as workshops but as opportunities to understand important life-related issues, boys as beneficiaries have shared with their teachers that the session inspired them to look at their sisters, mothers, classmates with empathy and respect, they don't like to dominate their sisters anymore, they identify that their families treat the male and female siblings differently. Participating teachers have also appreciated DJJS Santulan’s efforts towards strengthening women’s empowerment at the grassroots level and nurturing young people into sensitive, aware, and responsible citizens.
For the past two decades, DJJS Santulan has been committed to the holistic empowerment of women through spiritual awakening, fostering self-confidence, leadership abilities, moral values, and meaningful social participation. In doing so, Santulan continues to advance the cause of gender equality and inclusive development in alignment with the spirit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG-5).
