Patiala: The notion that 'parenting a girl child is like watering your neighbour's lawn' is so deep-seated in society that it has resulted into female feticide today. The social audit reveals that dowry system, unfortunately, continues to be one of the major & entrenched reasons behind rapid increase in female feticide. Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) founded and headed by revered Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji conducts numerous awareness generating programs on gender issues across the globe under its gender equality program – santulan; and has succeeded in changing the mindsets of thousands through its distinct technique. One such program was organized in partnership with Yuva Morcha, BJP, Patiala on August 7, 2015 at Grian Market, Ghanaur, Patiala while commemorating Teej festival.
The program started with deep prajwalan by honourable chief guests and Swami Gyaneshanand ji, disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji and coordinator of Patiala branch of DJJS. It was followed by a sensitizing skit that showcased the atrocities faced by a woman if she gives birth to a girl child. The pain is carried forward by the born girl child in the form of gender discrimination at her place and further when she is harassed by her husband's family for not bringing in sufficient dowry.
Sadhvi Jagdeep Bharti Ji, disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji delivered a though provoking lecture demystifying the myths and misconceptions about birth of girl child. Also, she accentuated that dowry system is on pinnacle of factors leading to unwelcoming of girl child. Sadhvi ji concluded her words by highlighting the joy, happiness and blessings that a girl brings in with her birth by naming festivals like Teej, Raksha bandhan, navratri that are dedicated solely to the girl child. Towards the end, a motivational song and a dance performance was presented celebrating Teej festival. The program concluded with addressing the guests of honor with a participation certificate and gifts to school going girls.
The program witnessed about thousands of guests including schoolchildren, school faculty and people from nearby areas. Renowned personalities like Sh. Aseem Goyal (MLA), Sh. Vikas Sharma (MC), Sh. Raj Kumar Pathi (Sr Leader BJP), Sh. Parveen Chhabra (President MC) and Sh.
