Ludhiana, the famous industrial city of Punjab, is today struggling with rising air pollution, diminishing green spaces, water scarcity and disparate distribution of resources. The poor environmental condition has now become a limiting factor in prosperity and growth of the city. With the aim of steering Ludhiana towards being an environmentally responsible Ludhiana, DJJS Sanrakshan initiated its My Earth My Responsibility Ludhiana Chapter in the city in July 2014. Furthering the objectives of the campaign, DJJS Ludhiana Centre undertook a weeklong awareness generation initiative in the city on the occasion of World Environment Day 2016.

MEMR Nature Conservators undertook 7 different awareness events including street plays, awareness generation booths, workshops and lectures to reach out to men, women and children across the city and motivate them to shoulder their environmental responsibility.

Following events were undertaken:

  1. Sensitizing Lecture at Dr. Ambedkar Public School , Giaspura, Ludhiana.

DJJS Ludhiana organized a sensitization program at Dr. Ambedkar Public School to commemorate World Environment Day 2016. Swami Vikasanand ji, ascetic disciple of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji delivered a lecture explaining children what climate change is, the role trees play, and the need to adopt sustainable lifestyles. Emphasis was laid on the fact that, no single person causes the climate to change alone; rather every individual is responsible for it. All motivated, the students took various resolutions and expressed their willingness to take up the challenge of fighting against climate change. Ms. Balvir Kaur, Principal Dr. Ambedkar Public School, also appreciated the efforts of Sansthan in inculcating green values in future citizens of the country.

  1. Rebuild Workshop at Decent Public School, Subhash Nagar, Ludhiana

The workshop was opened by Swami Vikasanand ji who talked about climate change and its impacts on various life forms of the planet.  The lecture was followed by an enlightening skit by DJJS Nature Conservators highlighting the dire need of rebuilding fading human- nature relationship by conscious adoption of 3 R’s – Reduce, reuse and recycle in daily living. All motivated by the play, the students pro-actively participated in the environment quiz that followed. The workshop was concluded by a sensitizing lecture by Sadhvi Ravneet Bharti ji, ascetic disciple of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji who discussed the ethical and moral responsibility of each individual in saving the nature. In the end, students wrote an eco-messages on the bulletin board marking their commitment to shoulder their environmental responsibility.  

  1. Two days Sanrakshan Sustainable Living Booth at Pavillion Mall.

The Sanrakshan sustainable Living booth was setup as a focal point for sensitizing the daily shoppers towards their environmental responsibility. Through specially designed environmental exhibition, street play performance, eco- snakes and ladders and live demonstration of reuse of waste products several people were encouraged on the path of sustainable living.

 

  1. Sanrakshan Sustainable Living Booth at Rakh Bagh.

The booth became a successful medium of disseminating knowledge regarding 3 R’s- Reduce, reuse and recycle to steer masses on towards sustainable living. Upcycling of waste items was well received by people and eco- snakes and ladders became a hit with the children who walked the block and learnt the essentials of pro- environmental living.

  1. Rebuild Workshop at S.D. Memorial Public School, Kuldeep Nagar

A special workshop to steer children on the path of sustainability was organized at S.D.Memorial Public High School, Kuldeep Nagar, Ludhiana. The workshop opened with a discussion on the various environmental problems, followed by a sensitization lecture on need of environment conservation and role of each individual in the same.  Learning became fun when children walked the Eco- snakes and ladders learning essentials of pro- environmental living. 

  1. Sanrakshan Sustainable Living Booth at Silver Arc Mall, Ludhiana

Men, women and children were sensitized regarding the environmental agenda and steered on the path of reducing consumption and waste generation through interactive exhibition, reusing waste products into daily utility products and recycling of waste as much as possible.

On the occasion of World Environment day, annually DJJS Sanrakshan undertakes a special Rebuild Campaign across the country. The campaign aims at rebuilding human- nature relationship through inclusion of 3 R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in daily living. Rebuild 2016 focuses on educating and empowering urban societies towards pro-environmental living.
