The term "Gender" defines the socially constructed roles for men and women created by society that creates space for discrimination. Such discrimination has after effects in the form of crimes against women, female feticide leading the list.
With an aim to give sense of righteousness and gender oriented direction to raw minds, a sensitization program was conducted in Karkardooma at a Govt. Girls School on February 4, 2015 under the banner of DJJS Gender Equality program "Santulan".
The program took off with a Q/A session with the students based on their routine activities concluding that every girl is a challenger to gender discrimination in some way.
Post the session, a ballet was performed by DJJS volunteers portraying various crimes prevalent in society against women, dowry, female feticide & domestic violence to name a few. The performance was followed by an awareness-generating lecture was delivered by Sadhvi Chaitanya Bharti, disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji-head and founder of DJJS highlighting the persistent gap in access to opportunities and decision-making power between man and woman.
Towards the end, a painting competition was organized, wherein 50 students volunteered to participate. The participants were asked to pick and paint scenarios where they are bound to take a back seat behind boys. 3 best painters were awarded with prizes by the honorable guest, Dr. Shivani Bharti.
The Principal and faculty of the school were very impressing with efforts put in by DJJS for social development, particularly in the field of gender. The event was concluded with a group photo session of school management and DJJS representatives.
