As a prelude to a mega spiritual program, young nature conservators of DJJS Karkardoma educated and trained under the Children for Earth campaign came together to undertake a cleanliness drive and steer residents of Shahdara towards green living.
Few days before the pious Shrimad Bhagwat Katha of DJJS scheduled to be started from December 23, 2017 at CBD Ground, Shahdara, these young custodians of nature came together to put their ideas on canvas and design posters for their save environment rally. The rally aimed at drawing attention of residents towards the dire need of cleanliness and greening of public places.
Usually, public places being the shared resources for the whole community suffer from the Tragedy of the Commons, where everyone behaves independently based on their self-interest against the common good and shift the associated responsibilities on others, resulting in depletion of the resource, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Holding the self-designed posters in hand, this band of Children for Earth marched through the localities around the ground raising slogans and motivating residents to shoulder their responsibility for keeping the public spaces clean and green.
Post rally, the children undertook a cleanliness drive at CBD Ground, expressing their selfless concern for the environment. Looking at the children assuming a big responsibility with their tiny hands was inspiring to many, who later expressed their willingness to join such activities and contribute to the society.
Children for Earth is a unique campaign of DJJS Nature Conservation Program Sanrakshan to educate and motivate children towards nature conservation. The said campaign has been running for over a year now in DJJS Karkardooma and has successfully motivated hundreds of children on the path of conservation. This cleanliness drive comes as a potent evidence of the power children behold to steer an environmental change in the society.
