The drug abuse eradication program of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan organized a one day training session at Vishnu garden, New Delhi under ‘बोध कैम्पेन’ – नशे के विरुद्ध एक आदोलनकारी मुहीम, targeting the 5 kilometre area in the vicinity of DJJS branch centre, covering the areas of Vishnu garden, Rajouri garden, Tagore Garden, Raghuveer Nagar and Tilak Nagar for the span of next 6 months, starting from July 2014 to December 2014.

Knowing the extent and pattern of drug abuse in the area, the campaign would focus on young communities, who have never used or might have ever used one or the other substance either on experiment basis or out of curiosity.  Underpinning preventive awareness and education as the theme of the project, it will also, facilitate treatment to addicts, based on organization’s uniquely developed psycho-analytical module, founded on ‘Dhyan Therapy’. The Project is divided into four phases, of which first phase is given below:

PHASE 1

  1. Assessing the need of the project
  2. Identification of the target area
  3. Underlining the key areas for the execution within the target area
  4. Mobilising the volunteers in the community
  5. Training of trainers session with volunteers
  6. Door to Door survey in communities
  7. Survey through unique tools at market places
  8. Regular review meetings & query handling sessions with volunteers
  9. Lane Meetings
  10. Women meetings
  11. Youth Meetings
  12. Meetings with the dignitaries
  13. Analysis of the Door to Door Survey and other studies
  14. Incorporation of the analysis in the planning of the campaign

Under its training of trainers’ session held in July at DJJS branch Office, Vishnu Garden, almost 42-45 young volunteers, including both men and women, who were mobilized from the local community, were trained. 

Purpose of the training Session:

  1. To provide a platform for sharing the drug scenario at global as well as local level.
  2. To give an informed perspective on various issues related to drug abuse and available approaches/ interventions to deal with menace of drug abuse in view of socio-cultural similarities of the area.
  3. To discuss the plan of BODH campaign and the modus of operandi so as to ensure the clarity and confidence in the work plan and strategy formed for the ‘BODH CAMPAIGN’ in Vishnu garden.

The training session include various methodologies in order to make the learning more profound and concepts more understandable. Sadhvi  Shaitabha Bharti Ji, disciple of head and founder of DJJS, Shri Ashutosh Maharaj ji and program coordinator of BODH – the drug abuse eradication program of DJJS, conducted the session, using the following tools and methods singularly or in combination in order to communicate the theme of the session clearly:

  1. Power point presentations
  2. Small group activities
  3. Large group interactions
  4. Brain storming exercises
  5. Documentaries
  6. Theme based educative videos
  7. Graphs, Cycles of addiction, downfall model etc.
  8. Psychological concepts relating to youth and drug consumer

Various other participatory methods, videos, highlighting problem scenario, games and energizers were also woven into the training session, in order to ensure the interest of the participants.

Later in the session, Sadhvi Ranjeeta Bharti Ji, disciple of head and founder of DJJS, Shri Ashutosh Maharaj ji and branch coordinator of Vishnu Garden area, discussed about various key points, related to the execution of the campaign. She also shared the next two months plan of the campaign, formed various teams and appointed their team leaders, to be deployed at different places, covering the target area as a whole. With the discussion and consensus built, she also announced that this campaign would run under the leadership of Mr. Ashu  Dhawan & Mr. Vijay Kohli, profound executioners, and also the local residents of the area. At the end, feedback forms were filled. The volunteers also sat in small groups’ area wise and discussed their strategy for the upcoming door to door survey. IEC material of the program was also distributed and discussed at the end.
