Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, DJJS Bengaluru organized special Plantable rakhi- making workshops for children and teens at Singapura Layout, Vidyranyapura Post, Jalahalli East and MS Palya, Bengaluru with the aim of introducing them to the concept of sustainable living , thereby steering them on the path of green consumerism.
In these workshops, the future custodians of earth were taught simple method of making plantable rakhis using eco-friendly materials, such as handmade paper, cotton threads and wool, along with plantable seeds attached to them. More than 200 children / youth participated in the workshop.
The workshop started with an introductory note of Sadhvi Nishanka Bharti ji, an ascetic disciple of H.H. Shri Ashutosh Maharaj ji, Head & Founder DJJS, who explains, "Rakhi is a symbol of beautiful bond of love and protection. Each of us share a deep bond of love and protection with Mother Nature, rakhi is an opportunity to celebrate and strengthen this bond. Celebrating rakhi with plantable rakhis can be a small gesture of saving the earth from non- biodegradable waste.”
Another disciple preacher, Sadhvi Subuddha Bharti ji said that the idea gives a platform to brothers and sisters to take a joint pledge for saving Mother Earth, while also freeing society from plastic, which has today become an environmental menace. She further said that a plantable rakhi raises a new life, and helps brothers and sisters celebrate their bond not only on the day of festival, but take it to eternity. Moreover, besides discussing the importance of trees, the need to organize such kind of workshops was also recognized. The children enthusiastically participated in the workshop, and all were given bands made of jute and beads. Some also designed tri-color rakhis with the festival coinciding with the Independence Day. At the end, the rakhis best designed were awarded.
DJJS Sanrakshan is committed towards making people of all age groups environmentally conscious by directing their choices and encouraging them to become responsible citizens for realizing a sustainable society.
