It is said that a human must respect her/his biological parents for bringing him/her into the world. However, only a truly enlightened Guru can emancipate a human being completely, for a Guru is beyond worldly bondage. Like Saint Tukaram said in one of his verses that without the grace of a true Guru, one cannot find moksha (ultimate liberation from the cycle of birth and death). Hence, one must seek a Guru and finding upon an excellent one, the disciple must hold on to Guru with all sincerity.
Guru Purnima is a day to pay the homage of a disciple in the holy feet of his Guru. A day that marks the beginning of a new year for a disciple was celebrated on 9th July 2017 with much zest by all the members of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) at its various branches around the world. The occasion kindled a new fire of spiritual thirst and longing in all the disciples for the presence of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji.
The event began with the aarti (worship) of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji. This was followed by a soothing Bhajan session (Devotional Songs) which weaved together the hearts of disciples with the pious thoughts of Shri Maharaj Ji. Then, spiritual discourses were delivered by the preacher disciples of DJJS. The program commenced with the meditation session. The event was concluded with the distribution of prasad (sweets offered to Guru Ji and with his blessings later shared among the devotees).
As Shri Shankaracharya said, although paras can turn a metal into gold, a Guru can never be compared to paras as paras cannot impart its properties to the metal whereas a Guru moulds the disciple in his/her own image. The Guru and disciple share a bond that is most pious in this entire world. The event of Guru Purnima Mahotsav is, therefore, a testimony of this bond.
At the event, the devotees and disciples pledged to keep the Guru-disciple connection strong under all circumstances to walk the path of spirituality with as much gusto as possible, to make the world free from the evils of fear and threat of violence and finally, to uphold and contribute to His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj Ji’s mission of world peace.
