Sec 15, Rohini branch of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan hosted a one day “Say No” Workshop at Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Rohini, New Delhi. This advocacy workshop aimed to sensitize students about the harmful effects of drug abuse so that even its first time use could be prevented and hence, this sensitive step would naturally help eliminate such a life threatening problem at the grass root level itself.

Considering the difference between the psychology of girls and boys towards drugs, the workshop consisted of two sessions- one which focused on the trends of drug abuse amongst girls and the other which highlighted upon the same amongst boys. The facilitator of Bodh, Sadhvi Shitabha Bharti Ji, disciple of His Holiness Ashutosh Maharaj ji who is also an expert on the subject, conducted these sessions. Through an educative lecture and several demonstrative activities, she discussed about the reasons because of which students start experimenting with drugs and end up getting addicted to them. She therefore warned students not to chase after any such incentive blindly and also suggested those several measures in dealing with the most common reasons of diversion and entrapment such as “Peer Pressure” and “Curiosity”.

Sadhvi ji further explained the importance of disseminating right and timely information about drugs to children and hence quoted that “a teenager’s brain is much sensitive, where each and every activity going around him/her gets registered and is imprinted by and by in the mind. Thus, there arises a need to timely educate and sensitize children about the consequences of taking drugs so that they too never feel curious in going for the experimentation of any kind of addictive substance which is harmful to their health”. She also highlighted upon the role of the school management and teachers in this regard which is also a very important aspect.
